Come as you are, and allow me to support you in your journey.
About Beth
Hello, I am Beth Young-VerKuilen, M.S. I am a therapist at Counseling Specialists, and I have been providing services in the Fox Valley area since 1985, and have been in private practice since 1998. I strongly believe in the importance of each client finding the right “fit” with a therapist, so I will share a bit about myself so you can get to know me better.
I was born and raised in Wisconsin, the youngest of five children. I always knew I wanted to work in a helping profession, and I explored several different ones before choosing the therapy field. My childhood friends would tell you that I was the “go-to” person, and when they had struggles, they wanted to share confidentially, so that seemed the best fit for me.
I pursued an Undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Spanish (because I love Latin American culture) before receiving my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. I am licensed to practice as an Independent Clinical Social Worker and a Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Wisconsin. I have worked in inpatient, day treatment, outpatient, nonprofit, and private practice settings.
I specialize in treating and working with children and adolescents and their families, survivors of sexual abuse and trauma, depression, anxiety disorders, adoption, blended family issues, LGBTQ+ issues, and couples therapy. I love to help people on their journey to improving their lives and their mental health. I also enjoy providing education, training, and case consultation to schools, businesses, and other professionals. I offer services both in person and via telehealth.
I support my clients in working towards a good work/school and personal time balance, and I try to live with that goal myself. For that reason, I provide services three days per week. In my free time, I regenerate by spending time in nature and near water and hanging out with family and friends. You can often find me reading a good book, taking a long walk, playing with Princess, my sweet therapy dog, biking local trails, or cooking a meal.
About Princess
Princess is a Therapy dog who often accompanies me to the office. She is skilled in helping clients feel safe and comfortable in the therapy room. If you prefer not to have her present for your appointment, please inform me ahead of time, and she will get a well-deserved day off resting at home.
